Entry Ref: #042 – Notes from the Cutting Table

We have always believed that a truly beautiful garment begins with patience. When we sat down in the workshop to sketch The Artisan’s Silhouette, our goal was not to follow fleeting global fast-fashion trends, but to honor the quiet dignity of the traditional Moroccan Djellaba. We wanted to create a piece that feels like a wearable sanctuary—offering complete, natural modesty for the modern woman without sacrificing an ounce of artistic identity. Every line, hood, and stitch in this collection is a physical record of human hands preserving a timeless legacy.

The Tailor’s Journal: Fabric and Needlework

  • The Weight of the Drape: For this modest gown, we bypassed synthetic, stiff polyesters. Instead, we selected a premium, textured weave that mimics the rich feel of raw Moroccan linen mixed with soft cotton. It has a beautiful, grounding weight that falls straight to the ankles without clinging, ensuring total privacy and ease of movement during your busy afternoon.

  • The Geometry of the Hood: The signature Qob (hood) was engineered with a slightly wider base. This subtle adjustment allows it to drape softly over a hijab without causing friction, adding a majestic, protective framing effect around the shoulders.

  • The Living Stitch: If you run your fingers along the center seam, you will feel the rhythmic texture of the Aakad (traditional hand-woven thread buttons). These are not mass-produced plastic attachments; each knot is rolled and sewn individually by local artisans, transforming the functional front closure into a beautiful vertical spine of pure texture.

Scenes from Daily Life: When to Wear It

This Djellaba is at its best when lived in. We envisioned it for those moments when you need to transition from the private comfort of your home to the public square without a second thought:

  • The Morning Routine: Perfect for stepping out to early morning markets, running essential errands, or enjoying a slow weekend brunch with close family. It pairs beautifully with leather flats and minimal jewelry.

  • The Spiritual Gathering: Its respectful, generous silhouette makes it an immediate choice for Friday prayers, community circles, or hosting formal religious gatherings where dignity and style must seamlessly coexist.

Preservation Diary (Garment Care)

This piece is born from a slow fashion philosophy, and it rewards mindful care. Because of the delicate hand-knotted buttons and the organic texture of the premium fabric, we strongly recommend washing this Djellaba inside out on a cool, gentle cycle or hand washing it. Avoid machine drying; simply let it air dry naturally on a wide hanger in a shaded spot. A light steam is all it takes to relax the fibers and bring the tailor’s original silhouette back to life.
